Luis received his B.S. in Plant Sciences at the University of Florida (“Go Gators!”) and later obtained his Ph.D. in Horticulture & Agronomy at the University of California, Davis with a focus on plant breeding & genetics. Having experience in flavor genetics, organic agriculture, and using wild germplasm, his research interests lie in using molecular breeding in alternative crops and agricultural systems with a focus on consumer traits.
Within the Ellison lab, Luis’s research will focus on the genetics of anthocyanin production in hemp.
Outside of the lab, Luis has a passion for baking, coffee shops, and collecting vinyl records.
