It is with great pleasure that we can announce the Ellison Lab has obtained a new Graduate Research Associate. Welcome to the Ellison Lab, Roshan Dhakal!
“Hey everyone! I am Roshan Dhakal, originally from the mountainous region of Nepal. I completed my M.S. in Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University, where my research focused on developing rapid molecular diagnostic assays for the detection of soybean pathogens, as well as characterizing the microbiome composition of disease-suppressive soils to better understand the microbial mechanisms underlying pathogen suppression. Following my M.S., I worked at Corteva Agriscience, where I contributed to studies in the identification of quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with resistance to northern corn leaf blight in maize. Additionally, I also worked in constructing high-quality reference genome assemblies for several plant species to facilitate trait improvement projects.
As a Ph.D. student in the Ellison Lab at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, I plan to use my experiences and continue working on applying genetics and genomics approaches to the development of disease-resistant hemp cultivars, with the broader goal of contributing to sustainable and resilient cropping systems.
Fun fact: I love hiking, cycling and swimming. I also like cooking and trying different cuisines. ”
