University of Wisconsin-Madison Hemp Research Field Day Set For August 20th!

Greetings from the Ellison Lab!

This spring has been a busy one, but with planting and transplanting of field trials complete, it is time to provide an update on how things are going and look ahead to our upcoming Hemp Research Field Day on August 20th!

Take a look below at a few of the hemp production trials being conducted by UW-Madison at the Arlington Agricultural Research Center!  To learn more about our research and see updates from our field trials throughout the season, follow us on SeedLinked (@EllisonLab)!

Industrial Hemp Fiber Production and Grain Quality Trials

  • Evaluate relative performance of commercial hemp cultivars and feral hemp collections
  • 25 Cultivars/Accessions (Grain/Fiber/Dual)
  • Planted on June 3rd
  • Evaluated for: establishment/vigor, flowering dates, harvest dates, yields, disease, grain yield and quality, etc.
  • PI: Phillip Alberti and Shelby Ellison

High Cannabinoid Hemp x Cover Crop x N Rate Interaction Study

  • Evaluate impact of cover crops and fertilizer rates on hemp production
  • Cover vs No Cover, Fertilizer vs No Fertilizer
  • PI: Grace Connelly

For all high cannabinoid hemp experiments, transplants established on May 15th and transplanted June 6th-11th.

Join the Ellison Lab in the Department of Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a field day about the latest hemp research being conducted here at the UW.
